Design for Safety is a process for identifying and reducing foreseeable safety and health risks through good design during the conceptual and planning stages of a project.
A DfS Professional facilitates review meetings, maintains the DfS Register and communicates information about identified risks and mitigation measures on behalf of the developer.
They generally apply to qualifying development projects with construction contract sums of S$10 million or more, subject to the requirements set out in the WSH (Design for Safety) Regulations 2015.
The DfS Register records foreseeable design risks, actions taken to eliminate or reduce those risks, and important residual risk information for relevant stakeholders.
Yes. Design for Safety considers risks across the asset lifecycle, including construction, operation, maintenance and future modification. The WSH Council specifically requires relevant risk information to be retained and communicated for future works.
